The ICAEW Sustainable Business Award recognises organisations that have embedded sustainability principles and practices and are reaping the benefits in terms of improved commercial performance, competitiveness, customer perception, staff engagement, and prospects for continued financial strength.
The awards, now in their 12th year, recognise outstanding British businesses of all sizes, across all industries.
Last night’s ceremony and gala dinner took place in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. The evening began with a video address from Rt Hon David Cameron who acknowledged the National Business Awards for recognising excellence in enterprise and honouring some of Britain’s biggest business success stories.
He told the audience: “A strong private sector is exactly what Britain needs to get back on its feet. I’m determined that Britain becomes the best place in the world to start a business, to grow a business and to do business.”
The Prime Minister’s message was followed by Sir Bob Geldof, who addressed the 1200 attending business leaders on the role of business in society. HRH Prince Andrew also announced his support for the launch of The HRH Duke of York New Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2014.
The National Business Awards judges said: “Conceived with sustainability in mind, London Bio Packaging is changing the world one cup, plate and bowl at a time through closed loop zero waste to landfill principles.”

The Sustainable Business Award was sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and their chief executive, Michael Izza, had this to say:
London Bio Packaging was a fresh, engaging, profitable and sustainable business model… They are a model for an upcoming generation of innovative businesses who are transforming the meaning of sustainable business without even needing to label it as such.
