William Wilberforce Trust Ball 2013

William wilberforce trustOur charity partner The William Wilberforce Trust held their third annual ball last week which took place in the historic surroundings of the Great Hall at The Royal Courts of Justice in London.

343 guests attended the black tie gala event, with after-dinner dancing to live music provided by Royal Hen, one of the resident bands at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in Soho.

Among the guests were the Right Honourable Chris Grayling MP, Lord High Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.  A silent and live auction raised an incredible £361,608 on the night, which will enable the William Wilberforce Trust to continue its work in confronting injustice and caring for those in need in three main areas: its employability and furniture re-use enterprise project, set up to provide a 16 week work-readiness training program for those who have come through unemployment, homelessness, addiction or offending; its homeless day drop-in shelter, providing over 300 guests with shelter, food and friendship on Wednesdays and Fridays, also connecting guests with practical and creative services such as art therapy, art workshops, music, drama and English classes; and its Caring for Ex-Offenders work, which aims to meet those coming out of prison at the gate, connect them into a local community and help them to rebuild their lives and avoid re-offending.  You can see more details and photos of the event here
